Review on πŸ“Ά Cisco-Linksys WRT400N: Advanced Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router by Max Guerrero

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simultaneous signal is important

I bought a WRT400N to replace a cheaper Belkin router that was failing. I did a lot of research on Revain.com and CNET.com. I use my wireless network for my laptop, my Sony Blu-ray player (Netflix and Revain.com streaming on demand), my Kindle, my DroidX and my Wii. Pretty basic setup for now, but I'd love to be able to print wirelessly if I have the budget to replace my current printer and I have guests who bring Wi-Fi devices into my house from time to time. Judging by its price, it received the highest ratings from CNET staff and users, as well as Revain.com reviewers. I've been setting up wired and wireless networks since Windows 95, so I'm familiar with the old methods before the system automatically detects new hardware. I found this router to be extremely easy to set up, it actually sets up 2 separate networks, a faster speed for media and a default speed for other Wi-Fi devices. It automatically connected my Blu-ray player to a faster network and has an amazing software feature that notifies me when a new device joins my network. I've had it running for 4 days now and haven't had any connection issues so far (my spare Belkin and Sony Blu-ray player often had trouble staying connected). In terms of speed, I notice it the most when I'm using my laptop and watching streaming media through my Blu-ray player, with my old router that didn't have dual band, let alone dual band at the same time as the speed of my web surfing was significantly slower when 2 or more devices were connected to Wi-Fi at the same time. What I noticed with the WRT400N is that the internet speed is even faster when using multiple devices than when accessing only one device. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I tested the resort's WiFi network (I'd like to know its specs and hardware configuration) which, despite only having 2 bars of signal strength, was able to Downloading Netflix streams to my laptop at speeds I've never experienced, even with a wired connection. So I've found this to be a great solution for my home networks and within my budget.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Good overall, but...
