Aquarium pumps and filters clog too quickly

They seem to clog fairly quickly. I have had other filters that I can wash and use almost twice as long as these filters. They work great for the first week or two, but then their performance plummets, barely exceeding throughput. I suppose they're cheap enough that I can keep fresh filters in the tank, but I think I might look elsewhere for the next set of filters.
