Review on Illuminate Your Path with the Black Diamond Revolt Headlamp: A Powerful Lighting Solution by Michael Adams

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good products but a bit misleading

Great headlight but I was disappointed with the claim that it's rechargeable. This flashlight charges like any other flashlight or device if you have rechargeable AAA batteries installed or used. The only benefit of a rechargeable headlight is that you can charge AAA batteries with the headlight itself, rather than using an external charger. Another downside, not listed in the description, is that this light only emits its maximum lumens on regular non-rechargeable AAA batteries. This is due to the voltage difference between rechargeable and regular alkaline batteries, the rechargeable batteries that come with the flashlight are 1.2 volts, the regular alkaline batteries are 1.5 volts. This is normal with these batteries. The light requires more voltage to produce the maximum claimed lumens. I found this a little misleading, not that the light isn't bright on rechargeable batteries, it just doesn't reach maximum output. I've had the flashlight for a while now, it worked very well and the batteries tend to last a long time, but I have yet to use rechargeable batteries as I bought this flashlight due to the higher lumens and the only way to achieve this is with regular batteries. A nice feature is that it can be powered in a number of ways, but a typical headlight can be powered the same way with both regular and rechargeable batteries. My old headlight with a built-in Li-Ion battery was dead and needed to be charged. On the other hand, if you had rechargeable batteries installed and the batteries ran out, you can use regular batteries to power the light and you would never run out of light if batteries were around. Also, that light doesn't really have a point, it's bright, but it's a really bright beam rather than a point or high beam. I compared this to my old Bushnell headlight that I bought as a replacement and found that the Bushnell headlight was considerably cheaper and worked slightly better as it had a headlight and true rechargeable capability even with the battery fixed . Also, having only one button on the headlight can be problematic, but the touch function on the side of the headlight proved quite handy. I'm by no means saying this light wasn't a good buy or light, but I was a bit disappointed with the way it was advertised. I was impressed with the fit, finish and quality of the product but compared to the lamp it replaced I don't know if that justifies the higher price. I would suggest getting a cheaper Black Diamond headlamp and just buy whatever rechargeable AAA batteries and charger you prefer if you need rechargeable functionality.
