Next level results with this stone

I sharpen my woodworking and turning tools pretty well. I love water stones and have had 1000, 3000 and 8000 stones and had great results with them. So I was a little hesitant to spend a lot of money on a 16000 stone and so far it's the best money I've ever spent. on whetstones. The iron on my Lie Nielsen Low Angle Jack needed some work. So I toned it down with a Shapton 16000 and achieved a sharpness that is significantly higher than anything I've ever done. Earlier - and my usual test of whether it's sharp enough - is when it shaves the hair off my forearm with ease. Here are the key benefits, in my opinion: 1. Size. It's nice and wide and makes sharpening a 2 inch wide plane very easy. It's wider than my other stones and that extra width feels luxurious. 2nd speed. I just can't believe how fast this thing cuts through the steel of my planes and chisels. It is noticeably faster than any of my other stones. 3. Bottom line. As mentioned, I now get an edge that isn't a bit sharper, it's MUCH sharper. And I've never been unhappy with my results before. I just didn't even know that such sharpness is possible even for a hobby carpenter like me. .
