I bought two of these (when they sold for way less than the $50 they want now) to use in a Toyota pickup truck restoration. I originally bought them to line the bottom of the hood. OMG what a trip. It's something more than just foam taped on the back. The product has a strong odor which I understand you cannot use in a vehicle. Foam can also crumble and/or break with abrasion so I think this allows for under the hood use unless you want your engine covered in small bits of crumbling foam. I mean seriously. Foam is pretty cheap. I didn't find it offered much in terms of soundproofing or vibration dampening. I was so unimpressed that I ended up just taking it all off and tossing the whole mess in the trash - I even threw away one of the unopened boxes. They are completely insane for charging $50 for it. Things. I mean if it's maybe $5 or $9 a roll but at $50 it's just a rip off for the level of performance it delivers and what you really get for your money. If you want something better, just buy some high density foam and some spray adhesive. Performance will be much better and you will get a much better end result than trying to use that cheap foam with some double sided tape on the back. The only place I could even remotely introduce this particular product. may be useful under the heading. As it is very light this might make sense (however there are a number of other products that I think would work better). Basically, if you really use this particular product, I think it needs to be encapsulated or you risk going bad with age. It is definitely not suitable to be used anywhere that something comes in contact with it on a regular basis as the foam tears quite easily and is also easily damaged.
