My 4 year old Dell Inspirion fell apart. The battery needed to be replaced and the AC adapter cord that came with the computer was frayed where it entered the computer. I soldered the wires together and hobbled around for a while. Eventually I bought and installed a spare battery and also bought a spare universal adapter. The computer ran slowly, if at all. The battery never charged and I kept getting an error message like adapter not recognized etc etc popping up on the screen every few minutes. It was a waste of $18. Finally I bought this genuine Dell adapter with higher performance for only $27 and now the old computer is back in business. It's worth buying the genuine Dell adapter, although I'm glad I found a seller who charges less than Dell themselves. I'm very glad I made this purchase. The adapter was delivered the next day, works great so far!
