Review on Olympus M Zuiko Digital F4 0 5 6 Cameras by Cassandra Sanchez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great pictures, small, light and compatible with filters

The small size of 9-18mm is the first thing that strikes me when I unpack the lens - it's only slightly larger than the Panasonic 20mm f/ 1.7 lens, and much smaller (when retracted it extends for use via a small slide switch on the lens barrel) than a Panasonic 14-45mm lens. Zooming is smooth and the lens pops up when you zoom in, but not enough to be uncomfortable. Image clarity and color reproduction are very good, and the field of view range is excellent for wide-angle work. The lens is threaded to accept 52mm filters and does not rotate while focusing or zooming, so the circular polarizer stays in focus. A slight chromatic aberration can be seen in the corners of the image, but not in the central area, which is nothing to complain about. in my opinion and easily corrected. The 18-36mm 35mm equivalent field of view is outstanding for a Micro Four Thirds camera, especially for such a small and light lens. Its main competitor is the Panasonic 7-14mm lens, which also has critical acclaim and offers the benefits of a wider field of view (equivalent to 35mm 14-28mm) and some auto-correction when used with a Panasonic camera , but is more expensive. larger and does not accept filters. This lens isn't stabilized on a Panasonic camera, but is on Olympus cameras as they have camera body stabilization - although the wide-angle lens barely vibrates in your hands. I would give the lens 5 stars but I'm disappointed with the price that it doesn't come with a lens hood or even a soft case, items that come with lenses like the Panasonic 14-45mm, 45mm and 45-200mm lenses are supplied. Overall I highly recommend this lens after a few days of use.
