Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Permatex 82194 Ultra Grey Rigid High-Torque RTV Silicone Gasket Maker: Superior Performance in a 3.5 oz. Size by Jay Matlock

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Let's see if I use black. or red. or maybe grey. Don't wait blue. ?

I recently changed the differential oil in my 2005 E450 6.8 liter motorhome and while doing the prep I discovered that there is NO original or non-original gasket for this vehicle. So it has to be Permatex for the seal. I generally prefer to use Differential Fluid Flush Pads, mostly because it makes it so much easier next time - it saves you cleaning up the old Permatex, which increases the amount of work. Certainly being forced to go the Permatex route, I was presented with the age-old "Okay, what color?". There are many options and many answers to this question, if in doubt search the internet. You get five different answers from the first five respondents. What do I like best? Well to be honest I think they all work. so this time I chose gray. I've used black and blue for diffs in the past, and guess what, I've had no problems with them either. What I liked about the gray is that you don't have to wait an hour for it to "skin" before you screw the lid back on slightly - just slide the bead on and immediately put the lid back on. (Make sure you don't tighten the cap all at once - just finger tighten - I applied about 3-5 ft-lbs when initially tightening). The specs say you put the bead on, put the cap back on, immediately finger tighten, wait an hour, then tighten the cap to the spec, which in my case was 40 ft lbs. Then wait 24 hours for the differential to fill with fluid. In my case I waited 24 hours (actually I waited all night which worked until about 8pm), I had time so why not. Like many opinions about the type of seal color, there are just as many opinions about how long you should wait before pouring fluid in your diff. In my case, I chose to just follow the manufacturer's instructions. never a bad move. Two weeks after installation no sign of dripping. worked great. Thank you for reading!
