The rubber insert protects against liquids, but the spout does not. The entire body, neck and lid are made of plastic. The hinge mechanism is not precise, so opening/closing with one hand will result in improper closing; The canopy occasionally lands off-center. Despite the center clasp, it doesn't seem to prevent water from escaping. It can work well with OIL or SYRUP but not with liquids like water.
