Probably only needed on rivers or for surfing
I bought these when ordering my first two surfboards. While I would use them often, after a few outings I don't see much of a need for them. If I was paddling or surfing rivers I would probably use them as there is a higher risk of the board slipping away from me. Because they are not needed on the lakes I row on.
