Review on Saddlemen 3515 0131 Pet Voyager by Ana Lewis

We have had the Kuryakyn kennels (the ones in the photo) for over a year now and we are very happy with them as is our 12 lb Havanese. I was a little rougher with it than I should have been and broke both of the main zippers. We were short on time due to an upcoming trip so I ordered this Saddlemen model as it seemed more economical to me. And maybe, since Kuryakyn is of course more expensive, we had some reservations about this model after all. First, the floor isn't as rigid as the Kuryakyn, and if you have to put it on a C-pillar that's smaller than the floor, you might find that it sags a bit in the corners. Of course, some of them created a hard base that would solve this problem. Second, although this model had more vents than Kuryakyn, many of this model's vents seem like double storage bags, but they can't work at the same time. So if you use it as a vent, obviously you can't store things in it. Kuryakin definitely had more functional memory (not that you need a ton). It came with some nice accessories but I found the food and water bowls to be too big. Third, many of the vents are quite stiff and don't fold or roll down well, so they end up blocking much of the ventilation (bad for airflow OR visibility). We also liked the ventilation and opening patterns. The lid of this device was sort of 'bubbled', but it didn't work very well and didn't hold its shape - too flexible for that. slightly higher than Kuryakyn. It also has a backpack feature that Kuryakin doesn't have, which some will find handy, but we wouldn't use it. He also has a few accessories, like a back pillow, which Kuryakin doesn't have, but aren't needed in our case. I ended up paying $45 at a local luggage repair shop to have my zippers fixed and we're glad to have our Kuryakin back. Each unit is enough for most, but we're giving Kuryakyn the green light, even at a higher cost.
