I hate the rain but am an avid hiker. I really dislike Gore-Tex shells because (1) they're not very waterproof, (2) steam rooms during workouts. So when it rains I wear a poncho, but not a thin plastic one (only good for emergencies). I prefer good ponchos because they are smaller, lighter and above all more voluminous. So you can walk uphill in this thing without producing more moisture inside than rain. Internal moisture is easily wicked away by simply swinging the poncho. This poncho is made of nylon (or polyester; there isn't much of a difference). It comes with a small storage pouch, which comes in handy when you want to take an item out and put it back in your pack without getting the rest of your gear wet. My last poncho (stolen) was a Sierra Designs model very similar to this one but cost twice as much. m only 5-9). The sleeves could have been 6 cm longer. But I'll forgive those quibbles because the price was so low and, let's face it, nothing leaves you completely dry. 4 stars because it's really too short. It comes in a variety of colors, including orange, which I like to see myself in (hey, we might all need something to wave to the rescue helicopter).
