Review on Tetra Whisper Power Filter 10 Gallons: Silent 3-Stage Aquarium Filtration for Optimum Cleanliness (26316) by Mariah Garrett

Effective, yes. Quiet, no.

Whisper Power Filters are great across the line. However, some don't match his "whispered" part. This is a noisy little filter - I have an older Whisper Junior which it replaced in the production environment and it's a lot quieter. If noise is a problem for you, skip this filter. To put the noise in perspective --- I have a Whisper 40 that moves 2x the volume of water and much more is quieter than this Whisper 10. Still very efficient. With the right type of media installed (not just some charcoal that comes with filter bags), a 5-10 gallon tank will be crystal clear. It works with smaller aquariums in terms of purification, but since Tetra removed the flow regulator on small filters, it creates too much flow for most fish in an aquarium with less than 5 USG water. I keep it as a backup or to quarantine and grow in a tank. As a main filter, it is too loud. I would recommend it as a quality filter, but not as a quiet one. Whisper 20 with Flow Regulator is the best option for 10-20 gallon (by volume) aquariums. Reduce the flow to 1/2 and you have a Whisper 10. A MUCH quieter filter as it is made the same way as the Whisper filters.

Pros
  • ABSORBS ODOR Ultra activated charcoal removes both odor and water stains
Cons
  • The list goes on.
