Review on 🚘 Equus 8264 2-inch Electric Oil Pressure Gauge with Multi Color Back Light for Efficient Monitoring by James Ohlrogge

uneven reading; Had to return

Purchased for F150 XL 2003. The sensor comes with everything except the lengths of wire needed to connect it (not uncommon). The transmitter unit has two wires; one for the sensor and one for the warning light if your vehicle has one. Three clamps on the gauge itself; Grounding, power supply and transmission unit. Incandescent (not LED) and uses a separate wiring harness. I use an oil filter adapter plate to provide the terminal connections as the factory connection in the block is too inaccessible for the aftermarket transmitter. This adapter plate is powder coated. This is very important as the transmitter unit must be grounded to the motor unit to complete the circuit. The instructions say "do not use thread sealant or teflon tape". It is not possible to connect a ground connection or jumper to the transmitter unit to complete this ground circuit. The device is grounded when it is screwed into the engine block. This is a problem because the oil filter adapter plate is electrically isolated from the engine block due to the rubber gasket between it and the oil filter mounting point on the engine block. Also, I suspect the powder coating on the adapter plate further breaks the ground connection. The sensor was installed, but the readings were erroneous, sometimes missing completely. It was very likely that it was a grounding problem. If you use an adapter plate to provide ports for the sending device, you may experience the same problem. Also, I installed this sensor in the A-pillar sensor nacelle. Because this gauge uses a threaded ring for installation, installing it in the nacelle was difficult at best. Not the best caliber for this type of mount.
