I bought a pair of these stem extenders to defer the cost of changing tractor tire inner tubes. I have several vintage tractors with water filled tires. The water is saturated with calcium chloride to prevent freezing, but it also corrodes the valves, making the tires uninflatable over time. Also, valve cores are usually corroded at this point, so they cannot be replaced. Here's an unusual application: I drilled out a corroded valve core and (quickly!) screwed on a valve extension. The result (besides my eyes and saltwater-filled hair) was a decent temporary solution: the extension provides a fresh valve core so I can now top up with air. This extension tube is light weight and no doubt quite brittle compared to the original stem so I could end up knocking off the extension tube and losing inflation. But now I have a tractor back and have avoided (or at least saved) hundreds of dollars in pipe replacement costs.
