I bought this oversized reactor for my tank simply because I had a smaller 150 and wanted a larger one. First, I use activated carbon in this reactor, not phosbane. Ideally you can use any of these, I have two of these so I use Fosbane in the smaller and in the larger charcoal. Regardless of the name, both work well because even with one reactor you can run both media in it at the same time. It uses the updraft principle, where water is pumped through the thin transparent tube pictured and pushed up from the bottom, allowing the water to flow upwards as it flows through your carrier, be it coal or GFO. As a result, the water is completely passed through and cleaned under slight pressure. I have used Carbon and Fosbane from Two Little Fishes with positive results. The water is crystal clear and contains no phosphates. Please note that the kit does not include a pump, you need to buy a pump separately to use it. It also doesn't come with filter media like carbon or GFO. After all, to do this you will need a hose to connect the pump to the reactor tank and another piece to remove the water from it. I think if memory serves me it's 1/2 inch. Overall this is a great product that gets the job done.
