! DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!

Great record that I bought on 12/18/17 as a Christmas present. The return deadline was 1/31/18 and it was discovered that the wooden planks began to come loose on the entire end on 3/14/18. When the block arrived it was big, heavy and attractive. I've been handling, cleaning and lubricating the block properly since day one. This item was defective after leaving the manufacturing facility and as I have personally been a woodworker in my past I can pinpoint the problem in the manufacture of this item. The production process is simple. Long sticks of wood are cut, the wood on the glued sides is roughened slightly, glue is applied evenly to the raw sides, the sticks of wood are laid out so that the cut edges meet, and then the whole stick is pressed firmly together until the glue dries . The block I bought either had the glue applied unevenly on the wood, or too little glue applied, or the block was not stretched until the glue was completely dry, or the block was not stretched with enough pressure. Complete garbage. Done right, this should last a lifetime. I should have noticed a short return period and realized it was utter rubbish. It's still not very visible in the photos (it's only going to get worse), but the first two photos are of the defective end, and the last photo is of the good end, showing how tight the L-seam should be.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Negative impression
