I do a lot of electric soldering and have found butane irons to be a lot more convenient than plug irons, especially if you work where electricity isn't available. This is incredibly handy for electrical work in cars where you probably don't want to lug an extension cord under the hood. I also use it to wire RC cars when I'm at the track or in the field. The iron heats up very quickly; probably 30 seconds or less to start melting 70/30 solder. The tip can be easily replaced if necessary and lights up reliably every time.
