Review on 📹 Z3Stream H.264 1080p60 Video Encoder: High-Quality Streaming at Lightning Speed by Jeff Labore

I wanted to like it.

Received this with the intention of streaming live TV to tablets anywhere in the house. My video source is 1080i with HDCP encryption. HDCP is easy to disable with some inexpensive HDMI splitters, so this isn't a problem. The problem was how this device handles 1080i. Even though it recognizes my input signal as 1080i @ 60 Hz (or 59.94 Hz), it only transmits 30 fps no matter how I set the encoding options. "Full" frame rate and "half" frame rate result in 30 fps encoding. This is probably the intention of the designers, because 60 interlaced frames together result in 30 full images. Unfortunately, this distorts the frame timing and causes an annoying choppy effect in most TV programs and movies. I have two other flowboxes (Oupree brand) that I tried to use for this project. It can only encode at 30 fps by design and produces the same choppy video as the Z3Stream. The other encodes a full 60fps, even with h.265 compression, and its video is buttery smooth, except they didn't handle the interlaced video source quite right and the streaming video only bounces up and down by one pixel per frame. Actually, it's a little worse. I have noticed audio stuttering with Z3Stream at times. Wanted to be liked but Z3Stream is back :(
