Review on Stay Safe and Stylish with HJC Helmets Flip-up F70 Helmet by Carlos King

marks most of my boxes

Part 1: I got the helmet from another dealer so I could get the gray one. I also tried one at the local dealer but they weren't the right color. I'm glad I tried one because I needed a large one. My first helmet was a CL-17 which I really liked but I've had it for 3 seasons now. This is Wednesday. The big F70 sits a little tighter than the other. But I love the way it rocks my head; it feels snug without feeling constricted or bound. There are no hotspots. And it meets almost all my needs: full face with fold-down visor, not too expensive and well ventilated (although I haven't tested it yet). I also wanted something that looked halfway decent. This is where it gets a little iffy; big in F70 - big. It's significantly larger than the average CL-17. And it might seem a bit heavier, if not downright bulky. The real test will be when I take it to the streets. Part 2: I rode my Sportster XL1200L. It's not a silent bike so I don't have high expectations or even understand what a 'quiet' helmet should be. Wind noise seems to be acceptable. I had a motorcycle windshield fitted for this ride and the helmet does what I need it to. I wear glasses and the helmet accepts them without problems; The flip down visor works well and is dark enough for me. A slight bang on his helmet isn't his fault, but he didn't feel any discomfort except for a slight pressure on his forehead after about an hour; However, this disappears when the helmet breaks. I still think the helmet is quite large, which is why it got a star for aesthetics. But for now it is functional what I was looking for in a helmet. I'll see how it behaves in very warm weather. Part 3: I've come to the conclusion that if you have a noisy bike, this helmet may not be the right fit for you. Compared to other helmets I own, it kind of elevates the lower casing of my Sportster's tubes to an unhealthy level. After about half an hour my hearing started to deteriorate. Earplugs are mandatory, so using a Bluetooth device is not possible. I wore a helmet on a Honda Shadow RS and the whistles aren't that loud; the helmet did a great job here, but i had to wear earplugs for my sportster. The helmet is still useful, but I'm not going to throw away my CL-17 just yet.
