I had another Belkin router that mysteriously stopped broadcasting Wi-Fi, so I chose this one to power my Kindle Fire for to use for a while. Well, the Kindle seems fine, but my computer, which is connected directly to the local area network, has slowed down. From gifs to my only MMO industry, everything has gone wrong. Setting up port forwarding did nothing for the MMO and I don't even know where to start searching Reddit. Also, there seem to be two places to set up port forwarding, one under Security and one under Media. Nobody seems to do anything. The new router may not work as well as it did a few years ago. Edit: Well, overnight the router seemed to have come to life. I did a DNS flush after the first port forwarding; should have done it after the second before my review. Seems to be working fine for now. I moderately like the Linksys site that does the setting for this. But the two port forwarding settings are confusing. I think it's best to select the one under the "Security" tab. The list of prebuilt MMOs isn't very complete and doesn't cover the MMO I'm playing, so I set it up manually. It's okay if you've done this before, but that doesn't speak for itself either. 2. Edit: Well, the router quickly went back to its old ways. Now I'm of the opinion that the ethernet connection just isn't working. While I had no problem watching movies on my Kindle Fire over Wi-Fi, anything I did when my computer was connected directly to my router just wasn't good. It wasn't just an MMO issue; Streaming and GIFs on Twitch also performed terribly. Did some speed tests. The one I did showed 20 percent packet loss; the one my provider did showed 11 percent. I haven't run more than one test, but I think I'll see random variations in packet loss and wouldn't be surprised if it actually gets worse. Sometimes Twitch just froze. I reinstalled my old router. I can live without the Revain movies, but my work computer needs to be running at its best.
