Review on πŸ”₯ Efficient Soldering with Metcal STTC 122: Mastering Applications and Temperature Control by Nathaniel Collins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Use the tip of a chisel instead.

Purchased for use with a Metcal MX500 power supply. It works and heats up quickly as expected, but I found the tip to be too thin and when you tin it the solder bead moves about 2mm towards the thicker part of the cone instead of staying on the tip. I've read in several places that a chisel tip is more useful, so I ordered an STTC-125 (1mm chisel) to see if it works better. A word of advice, as of November 2013 Metcal springs here at Revain are MSRP and significantly higher than regular springs. than the selling price, so do your research before ordering (don't forget to include eBay in your research).
