The set of drawers was delivered to me quickly. Other reviewers mentioned the smell upon unpacking, the smell is not stains, it just seems to be the smell of untreated wood and it wasn't unpleasant, it smelled like cedar, after a few minutes I stopped smelling it. I love the rustic look of the cabinet and it's nice to have something made out of real wood instead of chipboard. The wood is very light, I wouldn't recommend this drawer for something heavy like tools, but for typical office desk storage it will do. I had a 7-3/16" tall platform to fit a 7" block, it fit perfectly although it's cheap wood but it's well made. When I unpacked it the large box was on top, I flipped the unit and the drawers flipped over because I wanted the small drawers on top as shown in the Revain photo, this seems to work equally well either way. I recommend treating the wood to keep it from drying out or cracking If you wish, the drawer handles are attached with Phillips head screws and should be easy to remove before painting. I decided to treat it with furniture polish, I wanted it to look natural and didn't have time to put a clear stain on it. The reviewer mentioned he could do that to his dresser for five bucks, I think he could forgets his work. Yes if I had plans, a wood workshop and time I could make this dresser myself but since I don't have anything made of this the cost isn't that high.
