Review on πŸ”© Woodstock D4116 Doweling Jig: Accurate and Versatile Woodworking Tool by Brian Tompkins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well good quality but not perfect

For the price and performance this unit is good value for money. It has a solid construction and does a good job of aligning pin holes to the edges of the workpiece. The middle part, guide pins and screw are made of steel, the side jaws are made of aluminium. The drill bushings are the correct size for the specified drill size and guide the drill without binding. For reference, two holes with interchangeable bushings (1/4", 5/16" and 3/8") are located 3/4" from center. The 7/16" and 1/2" holes are on the other side of the bracket and are drilled directly into the body. There are small centering marks visible through the windows on the side of the handle to help align the jig with the intended hole location. They are grooved and painted white to contrast nicely with the black steel. The only criticism I have concerns an aspect of this type of attachment and not a problem with the quality of this model. The screw that adjusts the jig and presses it against the workpiece is above the workpiece, so the threads intertwine as you tighten it. This makes manual unwinding difficult. It's no different than any vise, but the small handle doesn't give much leverage. I have found that using pliers to loosen is a good idea. Bottom line, this is a great little tool, but be aware that it's not as sleek as it looks. I would definitely buy it again.
