It already had corrosion on one side right out of the box but I didn't care as I plan to use it in salt water. I strongly recommend making two adjustments/modifications before using it. The ring attached to the magnet was only finger tight so I took it out, discarded the washers and put a good JB Weld coating on the threads, clamped it in a vise and tightened the ring with a screwdriver. Water does not enter the central cavity and the ring never comes off. Then I cleaned the magnet with paint thinner and finally covered the entire magnet with paint. I only tested it with steel items in my shop. It seems to have a strong pull, but I haven't tried to take any measurements. I advise you to be careful to avoid painful pinching if the skin gets pinched between the magnet and what is being gripped.
