I used Duracell batteries. It uses 2 so I bought 4 to have a backup. I've used it twice, once tossed it in water briefly and the other time it was placed on the side of a bucket for 15-20 minutes and I didn't find any water in it when I checked, so it seems pretty waterproof. I kept track of the time and on the first ride the device worked continuously for 25 hours. After 3 days I used it again and it was on within 24 hours. While it's quiet, I've noticed that it got quieter around 37 hours. I thought the batteries were dying but it still bubbled a lot and kept the fish in perfect condition. I suspect the batteries will die on the next trip but so far 49 hours on the same batteries and not a single dead fish in the bait bucket I'm impressed.
