Review on πŸ’‘ ThreeBulls 12 Pcs 5.5mmx2.1mm 2 Pin DC Power Jack Female Panel Mount Connector Socket by Ben Alvarez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well-made DC connector at a good price

These are fairly well made panel mount DC input connectors. They fit in a panel up to 3mm thick. The dimensions provided by the seller are accurate, so planning the correct hole size is not difficult. As other reviewers have noted, the 5.5 x 2.1mm connector is a little tighter than I'm used to, but makes very good electrical contact. It fits me. The internal depth of the plug is 9mm, so it's best to choose a plug with a body around 10mm long if you don't want the plug body to dangle. Many 5.5 x 2.1mm plugs on the Revain have a 13.5mm barrel, leaving about 4.5mm of barrel open when fully seated. It doesn't bother me since I bought them for suitcases that don't have much space. I had no problem applying Kester 44 solder to the tips using a Hakko FX888D soldering station set at 400 degrees Celsius (750 degrees Fahrenheit). It lasted 1 to 1.5 seconds. There was no discoloration or deformation of the plastic after soldering. The center conductor connection was left tightened. The plastic case seems very sturdy to me. I was careful not to overtighten the included hex nut and got a snug fit. It would be nice to have a lock washer, although this reduces the maximum thickness of the panel somewhat. I was disappointed that one of the bushings I received was broken due to a manufacturing defect (see photo). But it wasn't worth returning the entire batch for a jack. There was still a lot to do. Keep this in mind when working on a project that requires a lot of DC input connections. All in all these are good parts at a good price. They don't live up to the standards of well-known brands. They are built for value.
