Rest assured you can DIY; it's not too hard!

Start by looking for Toyota Door Panel Removal. You will see that switching the actuator is actually not a difficult task. But then you will see that there is nothing wrong with removing the bezel on Highlander 2nd Gen 2009-2012. I will try to wake you up, but you are responsible for the damage. First, grab the plastic sheet tools; they make the job easier. Remove the plastic cover holding the side mirror. So from the side of the window. Remove the plastic cover behind the inner door handle to expose the 10mm Phillips screw and remove. Open the brown faux wood paneling on top held in place by plastic tabs. They show two Phillips head screws, the other two of the three attaching the door panel. The bottom screw is deep in the tunnel. Go back to the plate joint on the mirror side. Insert your tool between the door and the panel and begin to loosen the retaining tabs. Then you can grab the fairing by jumping out from below, on the right side behind the drive and then up. I lifted a little, pulled, and the panel was released. The drive is secured with 3 torx screws. Craftsmen, grab a kit here as they are used on most vehicles. Remove and keep in a safe place. There is plastic that needs to be carefully removed from the door. Disconnect the equipment from the electrical outlet using a set of power plugs secured with a latch that you push in and then pull out. Check your new drive. There are two cables going there, plus a metal rod that goes BEHIND the drive. I didn't know about this pole so feel it behind the old one you're about to remove. Wiggle the actuator to release this metal bar, and you'll need to turn the device clockwise to release it from the metal tab in the door. Pick it up and it's still connected with two wires. Check out YouTube videos of old Highlanders and how the old drive holds two cables. Open the black plastic tab to reveal the ball end. Unplug each cable from the device housing. Twist the ball end a quarter turn to unlock. The second has a thin Z-shaped metal shaft. Let go of this too, carefully. Attach the Z end and then the ball end of these cables and attach them to the body of the new device. This is the part I forgot to install: Reach for the heavy steel bar attached to the outside door handle. . This end goes into the white plastic hole in the new drive lever. Once in place, lift the drive unit and rotate it back around this bar, insert and hand tighten the 3 torx screws. ALWAYS connect the device to the power cord (I forgot that too, lol). Use the remote control and power buttons to check if the device is working. Wait to manually lock and unlock the button. Also make sure that the latch is properly prepared. This is the black swing arm that locks your door. Mine was locked and when I tried to close the door it wouldn't shut. Pull on the outside handle which I believe opened the latch. Tighten all torx screws. Check again for power before installing the door panel. Reassemble in reverse order and then test. Mine on a 2011 Limited Highlander is now working fine. All operations are memorized, from manual locking, to using the power buttons and remote control, to automatically unlocking when you step on and put your hand in the outside handle. You can't beat the price and value. I've saved hundreds by doing my homework and having the patience to do it all myself!
