Review on WARN 22680 Quick Connect Plug by Jay Swearengin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Product of Great Warn in Towing & Winches

I have used 3 of these kits. I have an external connection to my truck's battery which is next to my included 12K winch. Anything I want to connect to the battery I connect to jumper leads and other DC wired devices that fit into an external jack on the truck so I don't have to open the truck hood. Remember that the metal inserts that fit into the connectors (where you will solder the cable) are large enough for patch cord sized wires. For smaller wires like 10 or 12 gauge I suggest you heat the metal insert, fill it with solder and then insert the bare wire into the solder. If you don't, you can end up with less than perfect soldering work and a bad connection. The product says that you can crimp the connection, but I don't like crimping because in the future you will inevitably face the problem of disconnecting. Get it right the first time - the solder is in the wrong place. If you don't have a torch to heat the metal insert find someone who does as you will need a lot of heat to get the insert hot enough to fill it with solder. After the solder had cooled I stuck the metal end into the connector and used tape, although it's not really needed for the larger diameter cables but is needed for the extra strength of the smaller cables. ADVICE. When riding off-road or in wet weather, wear a rubber or nitrile glove over the outer plug to prevent sand from getting inside the plug. If necessary, you can always remove the metal ends in the plug to rid the plug of sand, but it's easier to keep it clean to begin with.
