Does NOT work for the underside of the tail. Dog can still achieve

I bought this product for my 15 year old Border Collie who has recently developed a chronic tail chewing problem that has lasted for over 6 weeks. She may also have developed some sort of separation anxiety or doggie behavior. She wore the traditional plastic cone, aka the Cone of Shame or the Elizabethan Collar, for two months, and I figured that would be a more comfortable option. The plastic cone caused her cock to cake and heal, and she seemed uninterested in chewing it. In fact, I thought about not using anything but opted for this inflatable type instead. I watched her in it all day and she seemed very relaxed and happy because of her fit and comfort. She showed no interest in chewing her tail. The first night we left her with it around 5am and came home in a bloody mess. She was gnawing her tail to the bone and we had blood all over it. Her tail was beyond repair and should have been amputated. She survived the cancer and had two previous surgeries with complications and a very slow recovery. At the age of 15 we could no longer see her suffering and put her to sleep. She was the best dog and my house is empty without her. Heartbreaking situation. Her quality of life would not improve and she would not be able to spend the rest of her days with the Kegel. I do not blame this product for their problems; I just want people to know that this isn't "fail-safe" for the lower end, as our experience has shown.
