This heavy winter coat looks like a normal down jacket especially in black but it keeps me warm. It closes with large buttons instead of a zipper, which doesn't keep out the cold wind very well, but also gives the coat a cleaner line on the front. Ideally he would use both. It has two side pockets that are also closed with large buttons. The hood is detachable and I like that it zips up so it doesn't open and let the wind in. I wear a medium top but the pants (bottom) are a size 12 and this medium fits well except it's a bit tight on the lower legs. As the size chart now states (wasn't available when I ordered) that the average size is a size 8-10, this is probably the correct fit. should keep you warm when the temperature drops to 20 degrees and even lower, provided you put on your underwear correctly. – Debbie Lee Wesselman
