It does what it says on the tin. I changed the tanks, but there was no filter, it was removed in the afternoon. So I set up my tank, moved my Oscar and 2 cichlids, the tank was cloudy and I couldn't see the fish. I was so worried that they would die overnight. I received the filter the next day, did as they said and put it in my tank. So on day 3 I could see the white little pieces moving but not much so I waited another 2 days this morning. I woke up to find the tank was clean and the filter was doing what was advertised. Be patient, it works. Clean the filter after a week. I can't wait for them to be refilled. I have 3 tanks of 20 to 40 gallons and 1 90 gallon. Now I have both sizes which I like, I think you might have to plug it in and run it in an empty tank for about 2-3 weeks to get it all out a bit and the filter moves. I feel like it almost killed my oscar because I cleaned it like it came out of the box, installed it and I put my oscar in with the new filter and the old one because I want to keep the old one until long the bed won i didnt start rolling so i did but the filter didnt filter the water so i was lucky i took oscar to my big pool and healed him there, putting him right in the kept an eye. I treated the water for 3 days and he got better. So I use this filter in my goldfish tank and I have an empty tank and it works until I get more fish.
