This mat is just what I was looking for. It's soft but pliable; he hugs the top of the bench. It has handy component pockets and a built in magnet to hold screws securely so they don't slip or get in the way. I gave a presentation emphasizing the need to avoid unnecessary ESD by using such a mat and a grounded ESD soldering iron. This is the winner I would recommend.
