Great burner so far!

I got this when the Superdrive in my 8 year old iMac was obsolete. I didn't have the $80+ that a Mac external drive costs and was hoping I could at least get some GOOD use out of it for that price. And so far so good. Admittedly, I've only had this burner for about six weeks. But in those six weeks I've already burned over a dozen discs. The drive is fast enough and fairly quiet. And so far every disc has burned flawlessly. I've also used it to watch a few DVDs and load a few CDs into iTunes. Everything has worked so far here too. I didn't need the software that came with it as it is connected to my Mac. It's mostly all plastic, so it's probably not realistic to expect it to last a long time. But I'm the type of guy who usually handles my toys with kid gloves, so I'm hoping to have some fun with them. If not, I'll let you know! UPDATE (1/25/18) --- It's been about a year since my review. During that time I recorded about 200 DVDs (much more than I had planned) and watched about a dozen movies. I haven't had a single burned disc error to date and my little LG burner is humming like nothing ever happened! My initial thought for this burner was to pray that I would last six months and then take another one. I certainly didn't expect that. This is hands down the best $26 I've ever invested. On everything. I would add another star if I could! UPDATE (12/12/18) --- Not quite on the 2nd anniversary of my purchase and my LG drive is still working like new. I haven't used it that much in the second half of this year, but it still responds flawlessly when called. My daughter started college this fall and bought one to use with her MacBook. So she's a believer too. UPDATE (2/2/20) --- It's been over three years and she's only going from strength to strength! To be fair, I generally don't work too hard on my burner. But between my daughter's wedding and some other uses, I've probably made about 50 discs in the last six months and haven't had any issues. In fact, I probably burned about 350 discs and I had maybe two discs that didn't work. And to be honest, I think I had suspicious urges on both counts. The best money I've ever spent. Period.

Pros
  • max. recording speed 8x DVDR
Cons
  • The list is getting long.
