Works well enough to know it worked

This is a decent device in its price range. It is very easy to handle as it has a slightly rubbery feel due to the plastic used for its construction. And the ergonomically shaped handle with finger recesses underneath allows you to comfortably hold the knife while sharpening. There are also well-placed rubber pads on the bottom to prevent the entire device from slipping during use. All these things together reduce the risk of accidents. So if you're careful, this shouldn't be a problem. It also seemed to work fine. I sharpened our largest knife without my wife knowing and then put it back in stock. Later that evening when she was slicing up the chicken for dinner (still some ice cream in the middle from the freezer) she noticed the difference and asked if I had done anything. She said the difference was slight but did mention that she cuts lighter and smoother. These are knives that are over 8 years old and have never been sharpened so I'm glad it worked. I'm sure if I used the "fine" sharpener a few more times the result would be even better. One drawback is worth noting - two plastic parts are connected unevenly in several places. From the top, the plastic is so perfectly flat you can barely hear what it looks like. But on the back of the handle and underneath, the plastic is so uneven that the comb becomes so scratchy it's uncomfortable if not rubbed properly. All in all, I would recommend this sharpener.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • It's not as good as it says it is
