Porcelain stone is smooth to the touch, but it can be deceiving. 1500 grit is incredibly fast and can easily break a blade if you're not careful. Just three passes and my knife feels sharp. I thought about getting a 400 at first, but the walk through the blade isn't worth it unless you're sharpening an old hatchet or something. I would also consider getting 5000 grit or higher for a high gloss finish.
