I installed this thermostat on my 2006 Chevy Colorado 3.5L to fix the horrible old code P0128. When I started the engine to check for leaks, the temp gauge rose to the 1/2 mark, which worried me a bit because the original never went past the 1/4 mark. I spoke to a knowledgeable Colorado enthusiast and he informed me that the new GM thermostats run a little hotter than the factory thermostats. Presumably this is GM's answer to increasing gas mileage and emissions in I-5 engines. I have no idea of the accuracy of this statement, but time will tell. He also told me that code P0128 often appears because the original thermostat spring weakens and opens too soon, preventing the engine from maintaining its optimum operating temperature of between 185 and 195 degrees. Took just over an hour from start to finish including new radiator hoses.
