I did my first DP projects without the Grid Ruler and then decided to use it and I will never try that again keeping lines aligned without him. You have to get used to them. As a previous reviewer mentioned, you can't just rip off the ruler after you're done with this drill, you have to take it off and make sure the diamonds go through the holes. I've found that dp manufacturers don't make the diamonds the same size which makes the tool a bit more difficult to use, but I'm used to it. Also, there are 2 rulers of different sizes, 141 and 140; If your painting is not aligned, you probably need a different size.
