I work in a school so I am very familiar with using adapters to connect external displays to Apple products. After years of experience, I can say with certainty that all Apple adapters are subject to "wear and tear", whether it's from being unplugged multiple times or just hours of use. Now, when I teach at home, I've used an adapter (mini-displayport to VGA) for one of my external monitors, and it's worked fine. However, when I unplugged the monitor to place it on the stand and plugged it back in, my computer didn't recognize it as a 1080p display. In my experience, this is a sign that either the display or the connection is the source of the problem. Knowing that adapters can fail, I ordered this cable. Plugged in, problem solved. The screen looks great. I don't know why using a cable with the right ends to connect computers and external displays works better than using adapters, I just know that it works. This seems to be of good quality and there are no quirks, such as having to disable it in order for the computer to recognize the external display (you guessed it, this is very common with adapters).
