We used a coffee press for our coffee maker and loved it until we found out that pressed coffee can slightly raise cholesterol levels. Since I have cholesterol problems, every little thing helps me. The reason Big Joe's coffee is better for lowering cholesterol is because it uses a paper filter. There are many articles on the internet about a study that uncovered the problem of press coffee and cholesterol. The reason I like the Big Joe more than other coffee makers is because of its size. This makes the 48 ounces of coffee my wife and I drink every day with just an overflow and filter. Most other pourover machines produce significantly less coffee per pourover. A few other tips; BUNN commercial 12-cup coffee filters work great in Big Joe and are cheaper. I also use the Coffee Gator True Brew Coffee Gooseneck Kettle on my gas stove to boil water and do the pouring. But do not use the silicone insulating sleeve that came with the Gator on a gas stove, it could melt. The reason I chose the Gator is that it boils enough water to brew 48 ounces of coffee in a Big Joe coffee maker.
