Review on Xantrex Freedom 817 2080 Power Inverter by Travis Vasquez

Good replacement for Prosine 2.0 but not perfect

Replaced my 14 year old Prosine 2.0 with this one. Pretty comparable, but the removed features are nowhere near as good as Prosine 2.0. My biggest issue is that after 30 seconds the remote dies, the display goes off and you have to press one of the buttons to wake it up, and then it goes back to the main screen and not the last thing you were looking at. It's one of those great things where 100 functions are controlled with just four buttons. So if you don't have the owner's manual, you're screwed. Power and charger correspond to the declared properties. The shifter seems even faster than Prosin. There are two 150 amp (300 amp) fuses inside so you don't need the large fuse box I had for Prosine. Installing 10 gauge wire in AC quick disconnects is a nightmare unless you solder (tinker) the tightly twisted ends of the wires or crimp the ends of the ferrules. All in all, considering that an all-metal remote construction, including DC fuses, costs less than $100, this is the best value for a pure sine wave inverter with an 80 amp charger. Since this is such a new model, some of the remote control issues will hopefully be updated with newer firmware versions.

Pros
  • Nice touch
Cons
  • Some difficulties
