It seems ideal.
I believe I have an original Makita lithium ion kit from about 18 years ago. I recently received some new third-party batteries that seem to be working fine, but the charger is falling apart. It still works but was making horrible noise a few years ago - probably a bad fan. Anyway, I thought the update was okay with regards to Vine. I wasn't sure if it would work with my old set, and spoilers, it did! It makes a stupid noise when inserting the battery, but everything works fine with new and old batteries. Can't comment on durability, but so far it looks like a winner.
