This cheap little iron performs great! I use it for RC soldering and I have 1/8 scale cars that need 10ga wires for multiple connections. It heats up the 10ga wire like it's nothing. I'm sure there are better options out there but imo for the price it couldn't get any better. Throw away the solder that comes with the kit if you want to make electrical connections. Use good quality lead solder and add some flux just in case. I use a cheap flux from Home D and it works great for my purposes. Again, I'm sure there are better options, but this works for me. I've had this hardware for about a week and have made 6 xt90 connectors with 10ga wire and 2 trucks with 2 xt90 each. At the moment I'm hearing that this little gem will make some 6.5mm Castle ammo ports and I'm assuming it will be easy. The temperature control works well, but the dial feels a little flimsy. Be careful when turning or storing the iron. Do not wrap the power cord around the body of the iron, at best you will lose the settings and may damage or destroy the dial. This is my only complaint about this iron. *Update* I've been using this iron for almost a year and it's still holding up. I've had a few silly moments where I've left it unattended for quite a while, but my soldering station keeps the iron safely away from anything that might get burned or damaged. All that happened is that I screwed up a few tips. Fortunately, replacement nozzles are readily available and this iron uses a very common type of nozzle. This means you can easily swap them out for a branded tip or another high quality tip in your favorite shape. This made this iron work much better than it did when it was new to me. I seem to use this iron at least once a week to change the battery connectors on my RC cars as well as the batteries themselves. I became a popular guy among my New York soldering friends. The analogue dial leaves a lot to be desired as it seems to display a higher temperature than the iron is actually giving out.
