This is my first kayak tour. It was pretty easy to install, although the instructions weren't great. If you have even a little mechanical skill you will understand. What surprised me was how difficult it actually is to lift the kayak. Of course I'm 60 years old, but I'm not weak. The fishing kayak weighs about 100 pounds. I have to wear soft gloves or the ropes dig into my skin and it hurts terribly, but I don't think it's the elevators' fault. Just don't buy it because you think it's easy to lift. Other reviews have also mentioned screw heads used to break off the shackle for a rope bind. Mine did the same. It's better to just throw out the ones in the box and buy decent ones. If not, use pliers to remove the screw shank as the heads snap off. Also, the attachment point of the brackets must be at least 10 feet high. Mine is mounted on a transom that is 8 feet off the ground and the kayak when fully raised is no more than 5 1/2 feet or maybe 6 feet off the ground.
