The green color is a coating on the inside of the glass that makes it appear cloudy when not in use.
The inside of the lens is coated with something that reacts with the electric plasma ball, giving it a green effect. This will leave the glass cloudy and dirty when not in use. It's too expensive for a mediocre plasma ball.
