DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. My dog used the al fresco fountain twice and got sick. I knew something was wrong when I opened the package - a strong chemical smell, like a spray paint factory had exploded in my house. I have carefully followed all instructions for washing and assembling the product. When I filled it with water I noticed an oily film on the water. Drained, tried again, same film of oil. The strong smell didn't go away. I put it on my dog and he licked the water out of curiosity but then immediately went back to his regular water bowl. I drained the water and filled it up with fresh water. He tried again the same day and never touched it again. He had an upset stomach for 2 days. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT SAFE FOR PETS. I believe the problem lies in the glue they use to attach the supply hose to the fountain dispenser opening and also the paint they use to color the filters. BAD HIT. UNSURE. Keep your pets healthy - stay away from this product. I have emailed the manufacturer to discontinue this product and am returning my Revain purchase.
