Faster than my laptop's built-in WiFi. but kept failing. until I used USB extenders

The adapter's speed is faster than my laptop's internal Wi-Fi adapter, but only when it's working. I had trouble connecting it to my computer. It kept disconnecting with that USB sound no matter what I did. I've reinstalled drivers, manually installed drivers, edited USB power saving settings, etc., but nothing worked. Until I thought it might be a voltage issue. For some reason I thought that maybe my computer is supplying such a large voltage to the device that it turns itself off because the current is too much for it. I know that USB ports output 5V by default, but I think this stick just got more and more. I thought this was the case when I tried USB Wi-Fi on my old Mac and found that it was really stable and never turned off. Old Mac with old battery. So I figured there must be a way to lower the voltage from my PC to the Wi-Fi stick a bit. Luckily I found two USB extenders as you see in the picture which I connected and connected to my PC via Wi-Fi and found that it works! I found out that USB extenders have a voltage drop and used that for this scenario and noticed that the USB stick wouldn't turn off anymore. I hope this solution works. It works at the moment. I've had Wi-Fi USB sticks in the past that had the same problem, but never thought to try the idea. I would always disable some advanced settings in the configuration.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Negative
