Review on Decker 7558 Three Sheet Finishing Sander by Jason Epstein

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Sand smooth

This Black and Decker sander is the basic sander for the home. It's lightweight so you won't get tired of using it. A good household appliance for the price. I wanted to use it for sanding drywall joints, which produces a lot of fine dust, so I was glad it had a vacuum attachment option. The problem was that nobody sells 8-hole sandpaper for use with a vacuum nozzle. Second, no one sells a vacuum nozzle, so that's another downside to what I wanted. Solution: cut regular sandpaper into three pieces as it is a 1/3 sander. Make a small template where the holes should be on a hard board the same size as the sandpaper and use a 3 3/8 inch drill bit to drill the holes yourself. For the vacuum nozzle I took a 2" wide white PVC pipe (the pipe used for central vacuum systems), I gave the same sized wooden hole a vacuum hole on the sander and heated the white pipe with a hair dryer to make it softer and can be placed on a tree so that it takes the shape of a hole. When it cooled it fit snugly in. The length was 12" but I only heated about 1 1/2 to fit over the hole, and left the rest round so I could attach the vacuum hose. These solutions solved the problem. Overall it worked great with minimal dust as I have a great central vacuum system. If I could find the right sandpaper and attachment I would honestly giving 5 stars for the price and quality.

Pros
  • Large sander, ideal for sanding large areas
Cons
  • Out of fashion
