I got this when I had 2 day old tattoos. My tattoo artist always advises me to use Batracin or Neosporin until my tattoos have healed but these substances are so thick and greasy. I thought I'd give it a try because of his description. It's slightly lighter, although firm. I applied it to the tattooed area with a cotton swab and then gently massaged it in. It is important that the scab does not shed prematurely and this was easy enough not to break the scab and encourage desquamation. It had no noticeable cooling sensation, but was lighter than petroleum jelly-based antibiotics. After a few hours, the area felt softer but not greasy, allowing some of it to absorb. I will continue to use it after the tattoos have healed and also apply it to the old tattoo just in case it does any good. It seems like a good deal for the price and a fairly large container. This will probably make a good hand or foot treatment at night too so I won't waste it.
