I bought several pencil sharpeners to find one that could handle softer leads like charcoal and pastels. They all worked well until the first weight broke off and jammed the blades. After that, they can't be cleaned and they don't work well. So I've tested many and this one is by far the best. It has a clamping mechanism that keeps the pencil centered and stable. This prevents the line from breaking. The clip is spring loaded and will pull the pencil back with the correct amount of force. It also prevents the line from breaking. In addition, if the stick breaks off, it is very easy to remove the blades for cleaning. Finally, it's manually operated (which I consider a plus) and much quieter than any other I've tested. One downside is that it doesn't work with larger pencil sizes like the Conte A Paris pencils. This pencil sharpener is the best, I recommend it to everyone.
